Diana Bossingham Elected Clerk -Treasurer

Our very own Diana Holden Bossingham, Class of 1973 and two-term President of our Alumni Association, was recently elected Clerk-Treasurer of the city of Southport, Indiana.  Sworn into office by Judge Robert S. Spear on Monday, December 12, 2011, Diana assumed her office duties January 1, 2012. She had been approached by members of the city’s political community and asked to consider running for the office.
A member of the National Honor Society and a Phi Theta Kappa, Diana is an outstanding representative of Morton Memorial High School and Ivy Tech State College, where she was on the Dean’s List.  Diana tells that she got her first taste of politics as a delegate to Indiana Girls’ State, a nationwide mock-political exercise for high school seniors, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
As an active, 16-year member of her church, she teaches Sunday school, is co-leader of a college bible study class, leads a small bible study group in her home, and is completing her second year of serving on a personnel committee task force for the church’s day care center.  Diana is Past Treasurer for the Wabash Valley Credit Professionals International and the Indiana Chapter of TSA.  Somehow she finds time to maintain her successful 11-year-old bookkeeping business, which serves a wide range of clientele.
With all that on her plate Diana and her husband, Kerry, also an active member of their church, some years ago became active members of our Alumni Association.  Diana served two terms as the Association’s President.  She currently serves as the website  administrator for our website.
As our President Diana, a strong and efficient leader, spearheaded our determined battle to save our Home from closure.  When it became clear that the Governor of Indiana was just as determined to see our Home closed, Diana, along with Kerry and other hard working and dedicated members, led the fight to save our archives and our history.  In that the group was successful, as evidence by our Alumni Association Museum’s new home in the former Superintendent’s house on the Home’s campus.  Diana’s outstanding abilities were soon recognized by the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy, which appointed her a member of the HYCA Foundation Board of Directors.
They must have 48 hours in each of their days, because Diana and Kerry also find time to enjoy their 5 children and 10 grandchildren and are this month breaking ground on their new home.
When asked why she agreed to run for the office of Clerk-Treasurer Diana replied, “The Bossingham family has made Southport their home for more than 50 years.  Kerry and I love this community, and I feel it is a privilege to serve it.”
