Kenneth W. Gregory Passes

Kenneth Gregory, Class of 1943, passed away October 22, 2011.  Ken, after leaving Morton, served in the U. S. Navy and was later employed with the United States Post Office, retiring in 1958.  His first wife, Barbara Gregory, preceded him in death.  Their large family consisted of five boys; Michael and his wife, Jacquelyn; Richard; Robert and his wife Connie; Patrick and Christopher.  In 1994 Ken married Shirley Horsley, who survives him.  Their blended family includes Sharon Farris and her husband, Jim; Theresa Grubbs and her husband, Jack; Timothy Brooks and his wife, Dina; and Mary Sokow and her husband, Steve; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom survive Ken. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends of Morton Memorial.


Inez Melton Dies

Inez Melton Wickard, Class of 1943, passed away December 29, 2011 in Indianapolis, IN.  Inez and her two sisters, Louise the eldest (married name not known), and Delores Melton, the youngest, entered our Home in 1930.  Louise was a member of the Class of 1941, and Delores, 1945.  Both sisters pre-deceased Inez.  For many years, Inez worked for the Federal Government in Indianapolis.  She had 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  Upon her death, Delores Melton Stead, Inez;s sister, made a large monetary bequest to our Alumni Association.  A room in our Alumni Museum is dedicated to Delores’ memory.  Inez will be missed by her very large family, which includes all the Home Kids who knew and loved her.


Laura M. Davis
Nov. 8, 1926 — Jan. 20, 2012

ANDERSON, Ind. — Laura Mae “Larry” Davis, 85, of Anderson, died Jan. 20, 2012, at Saint John’s Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Matthews, Ind., the daughter of Thelma (Wigner) and Elmer Cloe, and spent her early years in Knightstown, living in the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home.

Laura retired from Delco Remy, and she was a seamstress.

She was a member of Bethany Christian Church.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, Bible study, crocheting and playing cards.

Survivors include her children, David A. (Susie) Zirkle, Leia A. Davis, Dr. Stan (Dena) Davis, Jack (Debby) Davis and Tim Davis; grandchildren, Dr. Thomas Zirkle, Dr. Toby (Rachael) Zirkle, Tracy (Dion) Kennedy, John (Chelsea) Davis, Anthony (friend, Kelly) Davis, Amy (George) Urbanski, Edie (Mike) McGrady, Tom (Brandi) Wood, Todd (Nancy) Davis, Mandy (Ed) Bachta, Rob Davis, Jodi (Mark) Johnson, Susie (Billy) Miller and Kennedy Davis; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Haynes, Jean Atkinson and Betty Mills; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her extended family, Fred and Mary Davis, Don and Linda Waltermire and family, and James Alexander and family.

Laura was preceded in death by her biological mother, Bertha Losh Cloe; parents, Elmer and Thelma Cloe; husband, John W. Davis; brother, Charles Cloe; brother Jack Williams and his wife, Louise; and a son-in-law, James Eldie Davis.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society in her memory.
